Responding to President Obama's call for a National Day of Public
Service to honor MLK Day, 33 volunteers gathered at the Blackland
communities Stewart Conservatory and put in raised-bed gardens and
worked to remodel the house built in 1937.
Approximately 150 hours of labor were donated. Home Depot gave a 50
percent discount for materials for the project that amounted to a $500
donation.
A hearty lunch was prepared by Karin Faltynek that featured beef
cabbage rolls, lentils and sausage, several vegetarian dishes, and
cobbler. After lunch, the group toured several other housing projects
in the neighborhood.
